Five Minute Granola

Frugal Breakfast in 5 Minutes?  I wanted to share another super simple recipe with you.  As I mentioned yesterday, this is one of my favorite breakfasts because it is cheap, fast, and easy to make.

5 Minute Granola
  • 4 T. butter
  • 4 T. honey or maple syrup
  • 2 c. rolled oats
  • 1-2 t. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. raisins, cranberries, or other dried fruit
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.  Add syrup (or honey), rolled oats, cinnamon, and dried fruit and mix until coated.  Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring often, for about three minutes.  Transfer to wax paper or aluminum foil and press to flatten.  Let cool.  (You can also add chocolate or M&Ms once cooled!)

The above recipe makes a bar-type granola.  If you prefer a cereal, follow the steps above, then put on a cookie sheet in the oven at 350 degrees for five to ten minutes or until crispy (stirring once).  Break apart and store in an airtight Rubbermaid container.  Then serve with milk as you would any cereal.
