Once-A-Month Cooking

Doctor’s appointment. Late meeting. Church commitment. Dance recital. Karate class. Avon party. There are so many reasons that we need a quick meal. In our house, we used to turn to fast food and meals in a box. When you have a hectic schedule, that can add up fast (not only in your wallet, but on your hips too!). The need for meals in a hurry turned me onto Once-A-Month Cooking.

At the beginning of each month, I make a large grocery shopping trip in which I hit up three different stores (to score the best prices). After I bring home mounds of food, I spend the weekend cooking it. I make a variety of foods in large batches and store them appropriately to last for the month. That way, when we have a planned late activity (or unexpected surprise), I have a simple homemade meal I can pull out and have on the table in ten minutes. This method has saved us hundreds of dollars and led to some great weight loss.

Here are my tips to help you successfully plan, shop for, cook and freeze food to help you get the most out of your monthly budget:

Sauces, Soups & Stews
Freezing Piecemeal
Casseroles, Pasta & More
