Jolt! by Phil Cooke

I recently read the book Jolt! written by Phil Cooke, a successful film and television producer, writer, speaker, and entrepreneur.  In this book, Cooke offers 25 "jolts" (or steps) to making changes in your life in order to foster positive growth and personal development.  He makes it clear that this is not a quick-fix self-help book but rather a compilation of life-altering steps that require great dedication and desire to improve yourself in this ever-changing world.  He challenges you to "overcome your daily routine with a passionate journey of personal growth" (p. 79).

Filled with meaningful real-life examples, inspirational quotes, and tell-it-like-it is statements, this book is an easy read that forces you to focus in on areas of your life that you wish to change or improve, whether it is as small as biting your nails or as dramatic as alcoholism.  Cooke continues to remind the reader that no change is easy but it is possible if you are willing to break down your barriers and become open to new ways of life.

I truly cannot sing enough praises about this book.  I have verbally recommended it to every person I encounter.  Jolt! exhibits the exact theme I represent on this website: to continually strive to be better, open yourself to new ideas, and never stop growing.  It is written for people of all genders, races, religions, and walks of life; whether you are a corporate businessman or a stay-at-home mother.

If you have any aspect of your life that you are struggling to change or are scared to look at too closely, I very highly recommend reading this book.  Cooke will get your brain working and make you realize that you are never going to improve yourself unless you take control of your life, stop making excuses, and change.  This book is the exact "jolt!" that every person needs.
