Today, I would like to welcome back Becky Jane from Rise Above Your Limits
to TheNorthForty. An inspirational mother of eleven, here she shares
what parenting is all about through the uniqueness of each of her
children. I encourage you to head over to her blog and check out her Sweet Memories Children's Gardens which beautifully showcase how each one of her children is unique.
This is what it’s all about…
This past spring Nails (these are not my kids' real names)(age 18) graduated from high school. He could hardly wait to leave my loving arms. Two days later he had moved out (living with his older brother in the big city). Today he popped in to do laundry and eat. He announced that in 3 weeks he’ll be moving to Washington. I knew it was coming, but to have it finalized and a date set has put this Mother in tears.
Nails is my 8th child to spread their wings and fly off confident in what lies ahead of them. Each time it has brought such a flood of emotions…joy, sorrow, regret, hope, fear, love, amazement…just to mention a few. Have I really taught them everything a Mom should? How can I be sure they’ll choose the right? What if they are sad and I don’t know it? Who will comfort them? Thankfully I know that the Lord loves my children even more than I do. I feel very confident that I can turn them over to Him. He will give them the experiences they need.
This same day, later on in the evening another son, Chip (age 22) came home for dinner. It was just Chip, CL (my husband), and I. We had a barbecue. CL and Chip played a little basketball, we played Uno for a while, watched some of Chip's favorite Hogans Heroes reruns and then he left. It was a quiet and relaxing evening. Chip repeatedly told CL and I how much he loves us and how much he loves home. He walked around the playground under the large cottonwood tree, the hill and the caboose. Chip sat gazing at our 2 ½ acres as if his mind were taking him back to his childhood and all the adventures he’d had growing up here.
These two opposite events taking place on the same day spoke volumes to this Mother heart of mine!
