This fall, I wanted to point out the forgotten areas of the dusting realm. In fact, it may not even be something you realized collects dust.
The underside of horizontal surfaces.
Because of the joys of static electricity, the out-of-view undersides can accumulate dust. That dust builds up over time creating permanent dirt damage to your furniture as well as adding to the dust floating through your home's air.
At some point during your fall cleaning go through each room and dust the undersides of every shelf, table, and cabinet. Some heavier furniture may require a partner to help you lift it in order to reach the undersides, so use caution and don't strain yourself. It should not take more than 10 minutes per room for the easier areas and a little extra time for the larger pieces.
Once you are finished, you should feel accomplished knowing that your home is that much cleaner. This is something that I recommend doing at least once a year. Some of the easier to get to areas, like the bottom side of shelves and under endtables could be tackled more often due to the small amount of time it requires, but even once a year will help keep your furniture cleaner and fresher.
Pick one day this week to focus on the out of sight sections of your home that probably need a little extra TLC.
