Normally I am not the type to publicize any secrets that take place
in the bedroom, but I feel it is time to admit to the truth: I do not
make my bed. I never have. Sure, there is the rare occasion when I
fear a guest may see into my bedroom so I will go ahead and pull up the
bed spread and throw on the accent pillows, but otherwise the bed spread
remains a tossed disaster and the accent pillows have a comfortable
home in the corner of the bedroom.
I was raised in an ever neat
house and I believe that I keep a very tidy home. My mother and my
sister were, and still are, adamant bed-makers. This gene somehow
missed me. But I am a mother now, and I truly want my children to
inherit the bed-making gene which means, you guessed it, I am trying to
make my bed. Everyday. This lifestyle change began on Monday. With
the help of my husband, I am attempting to conquer this household
challenge. I have even put a checklist on the side of my refrigerator
to remind me.
Thus far it has been a success. Day three and the
bed is made. Now, I am not talking hospital corners, but the accent
pillows no longer reside on the floor. Hospital corners will be my next
challenge, but I am all about baby steps. I sincerely hope to continue
with this all-to-simple step that enhances our bedroom ten-fold. If I
manage to make the bed first thing in the morning, I begin the day with a
sense of accomplishment that carries on through my other tasks. If I
have failed to make it first thing, I am sure to go back into the room
later to complete the task. At the very least, it keeps me mindful of
the appearance of my surroundings.
What about you? Do you make your bed?
