As I mentioned earlier, I am working on a Power Savings Month in which I am hoping to only spend $160 for the entire month (and put $200 in my can).
I
recently went to the grocery store to pick up some mid-month
essentials: milk, produce, yogurt, toilet paper, and a box of pasta.
While I was there I saw a great deal on Desitin diaper rash
cream in bulk. With baby #3 on the way, I could not pass up the deal
and I shelled out $15 on a (regret-free) impulse buy. Baby #3 also
prompted an impulse buy of a full size rotisserie chicken. For a Power
Savings Month, most of our menus are vegetarian. For those of you
familiar with pregnancy, protein can be a strong craving. So, $5 turned
into that evening's impulse dinner.
Where does that leave me for
the month so far? At the beginning of the month, I spent $140.
Mid-month, I spent $50. Total so far = $190. If I could have avoided
the Desitin and chicken, I would have spent $170. Shucks.
Nevertheless,
not too bad considering I usually spend between $250 and $300 a month,
but I am still over what I planned on spending. If I can make it
through the rest of the month without buying anything (which I think is
very possible), then I will have thrown $170 into the can.
Not a bad chunk of change for some small sacrifices.
