Baked Apples

Worth the Calories and the Wait

This yummy treat takes minutes to throw together and a little while to bake but, trust me, it's worth the wait.  Baked apples make a great breakfast, snack, or dessert.  They are also great when served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Baked Apples
  • 4 apples, cored
  • 1/2 c. raisins
  • 2 T. packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 t. nutmeg
  • 1/3 c. water or apple juice
  • 1/2 T. butter
Peel a strip from the top of each apple.  Place in a 2 quart baking dish.  In a bowl, stir together raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  Fill apple centers with mixture.  Pour water into the bottom of the baking dish.  Dot each apple with butter.  Bake at 350 degrees, uncovered, for 45 to 50 minutes.

Tomorrow:  A slightly less flavorful yet still delicious baked apple alternative with fewer calories, no fat, and a much faster cooking time.
